value >= 1e9 -> value / 1e9 + "B"
value >= 1e6 -> value / 1e6 + "m"
value >= 1e3 -> value / 1e3 + "k"
otherwise -> rounded integer
A quotient at or above 100 is rounded to a whole number; below 100 it is rounded to one decimal and a trailing .0 is dropped, so 5.0 billion reads 5B. A quotient that rounds up to 1000 stays in the lower unit, for example 1000m. A null, non-finite or non-positive value renders an em dash.
